Google Summer of Code 2014

The Google Summer of Code session held on the 11th of March 2014 turned out to be a much fruitful event, to the immense satisfaction of members of the Computer society and IEEE Student branch of UCSC, whose collaborative efforts resulted in its success. The session was conducted jointly, by Mr. Akila Ravihansa and Mr. Charith Madusanka, two graduates of our faculty, whose main focus was on providing the amateurs to the competition with a concise introduction to it, and making them aware of how to proceed to ensure victory, while avoiding any misconceptions.

Annual General Meeting 2014

The usually serene mini auditorium of UCSC was abuzz with discussion, and the anticipation in the air left one in no doubt that the much awaited appointment of the novel committee for the two most esteemed societies in our faculty was underway. The dawn of 17th February 2014 marked a date of much significance in the calendars of ComSoc and IEEE student branches in UCSC, as the annual general meeting of those societies was held jointly to renew the committees for year 2014.

CompSoc Programming Competition in UCSC

CompSoc has always aimed at improving IT knowledge and skills of school students as well as university students. CompSoc Programming Competition was organized solely by our members to polish up the algorithm knowledge and persuade students to apply that knowledge to solve practical problems within a given time frame. This competition was held on 9th May at UCSC and it was an open competition and many students from UCSC took part in the competition.

CompSoc was established in early 1980’s and regarded as one of the oldest societies established in the Sri Lankan University history. Society’s patron for almost 2 decades has been the late Professor V.K. Samaranayake who is known as 'the father of computing in Sri Lanka'. He is also the founder of University of Colombo School of Computing. CompSoc introduced programs for educating school students, teachers and the public at large.
